Single Vs Double-Glazed Glass Partitions

After choosing to install glass partitions in your office, you next need to decide between single- or double-glazed glass. Here are the pros of each to help.

After having chosen to install glass partitions in your office buildings, the next decision to make is whether to opt for single- or double-glazed glass.

We share the pros of both to help you make the right choice for your business.

  • Single-glazed pros

Single-glazed glass partitions are a great choice for offices, as they divide open-plan spaces while still allowing light to travel across the floor.

They also make the office feel more sociable, as staff can see inside the conference rooms and private offices.

One of the main advantages of getting single-glazed partitions is they are cheaper than double-glazed ones, allowing office managers to enjoy the benefits of dividing the floorplan without having to spend more than necessary.

Their acoustics depend on the thickness of the glass, with 10mm clear toughened glass offering noise reduction of up to 33dB. However, this increases to 34dB if you get 12mm clear toughened, and up to 39dB for 12.8mm acoustic laminated glass.

Acoustic glass is even available in 16.8mm thickness if you want more noise reduction without opting for double-glazed glass.

With single-glazed partitions, you can still choose a variety of different glass types, from tinted to shaped, ensuring it fits in with your office perfectly.

It is available up to 3,000mm, in a variety of colours, and with a number of different doors.

  • Double-glazed pros

However, some offices prefer double-glazed glass partitions, mostly because they offer greater privacy.

Their noise reduction begins at 41dB for two sheets of 10mm clear toughened glass. However, as much as 53dB can be cut by choosing 16.8mm and 12.8mm acoustic laminated glass.

This is ideal for offices that have to handle sensitive information and do not want members of staff or clients hearing what is being said in the rooms.

Businesses that hold meetings with external companies, discuss personal information, or want to keep product ideas out of earshot of other employees might prefer having double-glazed glass partitions that are better sound-proofed.

They are also available in several options, including low-iron, heat-soaked, switchable, tinted and shaped glass, giving buyers a lot of choice.

Blinds can also be fitted on to them, allowing businesses to have maximum privacy. They will not just be able to reduce the sound coming in and out of the room, but can also stop people from seeing the events of the meeting.

At the same time as offering a private space when needed, double-glazed partitions still allow light to flood through the office floor, creating an open-plan feel. This is great at creating a sense of community for staff members, as well as making the office feel lighter and brighter.

Partitions are still available in heights up to 3,000mm and there is a variety of door types that can be chosen to go with them.

Therefore, managers can choose glass partitions that not only suit the privacy requirements of the office, but also look great.
