One of the best ways to get employees to move away from home working is by fitting office glass partitions. To find out what the other benefits are, read on.

What Are The Benefits Of Double-Glazed Office Partitions?

Companies all around the country are on a drive to get employees back into the office, so it is important they make the working environment as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

One of the best ways to improve the aesthetics of a busy building is with office glass partitions, as these provide privacy, as well as create an open, friendly place to work in.

But let’s go back to the beginning – after people were forced to work from home during the pandemic and most got used to conducting their duties from the comfort of their living rooms, why are businesses now so intent on returning to the office?

The big office return

One of the biggest changes lockdown brought was new flexible working arrangements, with the majority of companies allowing employees to work both at home and in the office when they choose to.

However, three years on from the onset of the pandemic, many corporations are trying to crack down on the hybrid approach and are calling for staff to be on site more often.

For instance, Disney, Twitter and KPMG have all pulled back on their flexible arrangements.

Chief executive officer of Disney Bob Iger released a statement earlier this year.

He wrote: “In a creative business like ours, nothing can replace the ability to connect, observe and create with peers that comes from being physically together, nor the opportunity to grow professionally by learning from leaders and mentors.”

Although many businesses used remote working as a way to attract more candidates a couple of years ago, the BBC recognises that employers now have greater leverage over workers, as a result of economic instability and job cuts.

Therefore, they do not need a competitive edge when it comes to recruitment, which is why many businesses have ditched their flexible working arrangements.

This, however, does not mean they do not still want to attract a high calibre of employees or retain the ones they have. This is why many firms are making sure their office standards are the highest they have ever been.

How are companies improving their offices?

As they reduce their hybrid working allowances, companies are trying to upgrade their offices so employees still enjoy coming in every day and working there.

It would be even harder to encourage workers to stay with the business if the office was run down, had few facilities, was in an inconvenient location, and its technology was not up to scratch.

Therefore, it is still essential businesses look after their buildings well, so staff members find it pleasant to work there and do not look for another job that offers more flexible conditions, as well as better office standards.

Many buildings might not have been updated over the pandemic, so they may need big changes, such as new floors, kitchens and bathrooms.

Modern IT equipment, comfortable office chairs, and sociable common areas are also important, especially as businesses are now competing with the comfort of working from home.

What about double-glazed partitions?

One of the best changes to make to an office is to install double-glazed glass partitions.

This simple alteration can be really effective at overhauling the office layout and environment, which is why lots of companies are thinking carefully about using glass screens to divide areas while retaining an open-plan feel.

The main appeal of glass partitions is they provide separate areas, such as communal zones, conference rooms, or private offices for managers.

However, instead of these areas being hidden away behind walls, they are separated by glass.

This enables others to see into the room, making members of staff more accountable, and allowing light to spread throughout the office, creating a brighter place to work.

What are the benefits of double-glazed partitions in an office?

Some of the advantages of double-glazed glass partitions have already been mentioned, but there are many more besides.

  • Sound insulation

For instance, they offer sound insulation. Having two panes of glass means whatever is being said within the room cannot be heard elsewhere.

Therefore, meetings can go ahead without interruption from the rest of the office, so people on the other end of conference calls can hear everything clearly and vice versa.

It also means other employees can not hear private or personal conversations taking place within the partitioned area.

  • Energy efficient

Another benefit to glass partitions is they are energy efficient. It is much easier for separate rooms to stay warm than large, open spaces, as hot air becomes trapped inside the glass walls.

Therefore, it is more cost-effective to heat these distinct rooms, as the warm air cannot escape, unlike in an open-plan office.

This is likely to be particularly important to businesses at the moment, following a year of escalating energy prices.

Encouraging more workers back into the office might improve productivity and creativity, but it also means companies have to pay for bigger offices and, therefore, higher energy bills.

If there is any way they can keep these costs to a minimum, it is certainly worth doing it.

Earlier this year, the government revealed its Energy Bills Discount Scheme to support non-domestic energy users. This will run from April 1st 2023 to March 31st 2024, providing discounts for customers during this period.

It set the maximum threshold for electricity at £302 per MWh and £107 per MWh for gas.

Although the scheme offers a discount on energy contracts, bills are still incredibly steep for companies, which is why installing double-glazed partitions would be a sensible economic choice for businesses, as they could save money on energy use in the long-run.

  • Look good

Another reason to fit glass walls throughout an office is it creates an aesthetically appealing interior design.

To employees, having a modern look makes the company appear thriving. It also shows it cares about the environment its staff work in.

Furthermore, to clients or customers, a new, contemporary design gives the impression of a successful business.

If the office was outdated, poorly maintained and old-fashioned, this would make the company look as though it is not doing well, and could deter people from investing in it.
